Average cost per square foot for indoor house painting?

I live in Ontario Canada and am looking fot the average cost per sq ft for painting of interior walls. Thanks.Average cost per square foot for indoor house painting?
Since the cost of paint and the cost of labor will vary from contractor to contractor, the best thing to do is call around and ask how much they charge. If you're planning on doing it yourself, calling around to local paint companies and asking about price and approximate square footage per gallon will be your best bet. But always remember, cheaper is very rarely better.

Venetian Plaster is really beautiful and easy to do. You can use a practice board to try a few techniques and see what works for you. It gives the walls an old world, aged plaster look.

Aside from that you can put on a coat of latex in a color of your choice. Next, mix a slightly lighter or darker shade of the same color with glazing liqid and sponge lightly over the primary coat. You can go for a washed look or a stippled look. The key to making it subtle is to use similar shades of the same color.

I used rust prevention indoor/outdoor spray paint on my charcoal grill. Is this safe?

William is correct. An auto parts will carry different hi temp paints. Engine paint is good up to about 500 degrees. Header paint is good to 1500 degrees, and will work very well for a grill. Hope this helps.I used rust prevention indoor/outdoor spray paint on my charcoal grill. Is this safe?
yes as long as you did not paint the inside.

it will burn off again, so next time go to an auto store and get some high heat paint,

wire brush it down then paint it.I used rust prevention indoor/outdoor spray paint on my charcoal grill. Is this safe?
It won't harm you but it wil bake off. You need to use a heat resistant paint next time.

    Indoor painting question ?

i want to paint my bedroom walls but over the years there has been 5 layers of paint and 1 layer was a mural so everything is uneven and need ugly, what should i do ?Indoor painting question ?
Trying to sand this is a waste of time and may be hazardous depending on wether or not there was any lead paint in any of the previous layers. If your mural was done with acrylic artist's paint(tubes) this stuff is rather soft and stretchy and can clog your sandpaper easily and be tough as the devil to sand down(oil paint too!).You are much better off changing the drywall.Indoor painting question ?
Wash down the walls. Then lightly sand. Dust them down and then put on a layer of kilz or binz before you paint. When you put on the primer have it tinted in a shade a little lighter than what you are going to use.
you may not like this...sand, sand, sand like a fool. wear a particle mask and eye protection and sand the walls smooth, then you can paint them...there usually is no need for a primer or sealer if the walls have been previously painted and have not water damage and there is no nicotine coating them.
Sand until you have a flat surface.
You could scrape and sand until you have a smooth surface. Messy, time-consuming, but you'll be happy about the result. Be sure to use a good primer before you paint.

Or, you could plaster the walls. It would be worth the money to have a professional do this.

    Indoor painting question?

I am painting my kitchen a bright apple green. It's currently the typical eggshell. There is caulking all around the counters etc. (where the wall meets the counter). My question is: Do I paint right up to the counter , over top of the caulking? And if so, do I have to re-do the caulking over it? Or do I stop just before the white caulking and leave the white line?

The caulking itself is in good shape so it's purely asthetics.

    Thanks!Indoor painting question?
    Hi,

it's more of a prefference, however if it's silicone caulking then you cant paint over it.

I don't think breathing any paint fumes is good. My mom gets dizzy after an hour of fumes.

I'd have an open window. I always do when I paint. Or a really large room.

Also, painting outside is always lovely!

    Indoor painting question ?

i want to paint my bedroom walls but over the years there has been 5 layers of paint and 1 layer was a mural so everything is uneven and need ugly, what should i do ?Indoor painting question ?
You could strip off the old paint but that could be a big expensive job.I would use a flat finish paint and roll it on with a texture roller. These come in various finishes and patterns. This will hide most of your uneven spots...Indoor painting question ?
real simple first you sand the walls so that there are no bludges in the walls. then you prime it so you cover up the horrible lloking stuff and then after the paint dries , you paint however you want.
Go to your local hardware or paint store and ask for a primer to even everything out (they are usually pretty thick). Then you can paint on top of the primer as normal.
You could never hand sand that stuff off, and any mechanical method would end up eating into the paper face of your sheetrock, causing a bigger problem.

I use drywall compound (mud) and an 8'; - 12'; blade to smooth it on. Work small areas at a time. When it's dry, I feel it for hollow places or high spots and add or remove (sand) as necessary.

When I'm happy with it, I give it an all-over light sanding, then prime and paint it.
I would give a light sand on rough spots made only by bad paint application, if you use putty or mud, over a large area, it will never be flat and smooth. So just smooth out any ridges or drips or texturizing previously done to it, apply a coat of primer, then two coats of the desired color in acrylic.
easy fix try ralph lauren river rock paint its textured and covers great!!!
that's be a nightmare to try to make those walls perfectly flat again....so you could think about going for a really rough imaginative texture like this: http://www.uniquetextures.com/00281.htm

be sure to rough up any semigloss surfaces
Below are the step-by-step directions that you requested. They are for normal walls, which you don't have. You need to follow the section on applying tape compund or spackle more carefully. The only way to deal with the uneveness is to use the compound at a leveler. Use a wide knife so that you can see how even it is coming out. If they have 12 inch knives, that could be helpful.
If there's not too much unevenness you night try sanding the high spots with 100grit sandpaper then use Spackle to fill in any damage you do then use 150 grit to finish sand the Spackle then prime and paint. If the walls are really bad I'd do what's called a skim coat which means spackling over the whole wall, than sanding flat then priming and painting, this is obviously a lot more work but it will solve the problem. There's a third method which involves going over the walls with a paintable wallpaper, this essentially puts an entirely new face on the walls, again this is more work but would make for a really nice job.
    sand smooth then paint
Lowe's and home depot carry wall texture (comes in a spray can) that will mask the uneven texture that is there now. Once it is dry, then you can paint over it. It looks very nice once it is all done and finished. I dont know how badly uneven your walls are, but this stuff is pretty good for masking stuff like that - its worth looking into anyway.

    Hope this helps.
you should remove the old paint, either with paint stripper or remover. may even have to do some sanding this is gonna be a long annoying process not to mention messy...good luck with this one
well in order to get rid of the texture left behind from the muraal you'll have to skim coat the wall with joint compound sand and then prime and paint

  • How do i remove cigarette smoke/tar from indoor painted walls so that i can paint them?

You can use a solution of TSP on the walls (wear rubber gloves) this will take the smoke ';oil'; vapor off the wall. If you have popcorn or stipple ceiling, you can't go over it with TSP, however alot of the smell is in there so it will have to be painted.. Do the ceiling first. with ceiling paint. As a help to reduced the odor, in the can of latex ceiling paint add a half bottle of vanilla extract. That will help to offset the cigarette odor and paint odor. Use the other half in the latex wall paint and plan on 2 coats of paint with overnight to dry between the coats. (Actually, that is the way I would go for the ceiling too) So, paint the ceiling and the walls one day and do it again the next day.How do i remove cigarette smoke/tar from indoor painted walls so that i can paint them?
I thought sure I had all ready posted on this. I will try again.

I used the Dark Dawn detergent on our walls and used a sponged wax mop to wash them down. Then I rinsed them. It took the stain right off. Dawn detergent is a very cheap household cleaner. How do i remove cigarette smoke/tar from indoor painted walls so that i can paint them?
Use TSP. It's a detergent that you can find in the paint section. It's what the pros use. A large sponge will make the work easier.
wash the walls down with TSP and buy special primer to get rid of the smell of smoke

I'm painting an indoor parking garage - concrete walls?

I have a few questions on this...

1 - 75% of the wall space is in excellent condition but there are parts that are flaking with whatever was on there previously...how do I smooth that flaking surface? ...sanding or otherwise?

2 - There is another part of the concrete wall that looks like pieces of the concrete have chipped away in chunks, maybe a little bit less than an inch deep on the wall. How do I refinish/smooth that concrete surface to be smooth?

3 - I have to price the job itself. The area is about 21,000 square feet..maybe a 60-70 car indoor parking garage. There are 24 structure columns to paint as well but they are all in good shape and can be painted easily. How do I price this job?

Thanks!I'm painting an indoor parking garage - concrete walls?
    Here is what you do:

#1. Figure up the exact square footage of the wall surfaces you need to paint. Go to a professional paint store such as Porter Paints, Sherwin Williams and tell them what you are painting, which is concrete. Have them figure up the gallons of paint you will need. Buy in 5 gallon pails. Ask for a contractors discount on all materials.

#2. For a good job I would powerwash the walls and columns. Ask the same paint store for a good cleaning solution to power wash these items with. You also could possibly rent a power washer off of them.

#3. Price the paint for the steel columns also.

#4. Check the garage (job site) to make sure you have water source to power wash, and electrical outlet to run compressor if you plan to spray on the paint on the concrete/steel.

#5. Are there going to be cars in the garage, or is the owner of the garage going to give notice to those parking there that the garage is to be closed during this painting? This is a big deal for you. You can't make good time if cars are close to the walls and columns. I can guarantee you someone is going to complain about dirt and or paint on their car - so check this out first before you give them a price.

#6. Is there a place to store your materials on the job?

#7. You can fill the concrete spalls with mortar mix but first prime the holes with a bonding agent such as *thorobond. Let it dry than take a small margin trowel and apply mortar mix to the hole-smooth out let dry - do this after you powerwash the walls.

#8. To price the job figure how long it will take you to round up all the materials and equipment and transport it to the job. Then estimate how long it will take to set up powerwasher and wash all the walls and columns/rinse also. Now figure the hours it will take to patch the spalls or impressions in the concrete walls. Now figure how long it would take you to spray or roll paint on all the walls. *Include time to put dropcloths over any cars close by.

#9. Now you have to paint 24 columns. Can you paint one column in 2hrs? Picture yourself painting one column - how long will it take you. Now just multiply that x 24 to get man hours. Each day you must pick up and clean up the jobsite - add 1 hour each day just for getting stuff ready and putting it away at the end of the day.

#10. Now take the total cost of your materials with tax. Multiply that by 20% then add the 20%. You have to make money on materials.

Then take your total man hours you already figured x $25 per hour. Now add 15% to cover overhead such as gas, taxes, fidc, medicare, workmens comp,*even if you don't pay these things most of your competitors do so add it in.

Now after you add your 15% to your labor take that total x 10%, this is your profit for the job.

Now add your materials with markup, to your total labor cost to get a grand total. This is the price you write on your proposal.

*State everything that you are going to do on this job. The more items you list, the more detailed your proposal looks = a more professional image.

    * check out if the cars are going to be in the garage , this is a big thing.

Good LuckI'm painting an indoor parking garage - concrete walls?
ted ruski got it right but dont patch with mortar, use portland cement and masons sand and mix it stiff and force into the spalls...
Extremely obvious you have no (zero) experience in this. Get someone that knows what they are doing to assist with this one or else you are going to lose your shirt. Surface prep is the most important part of the job. The two problems you mentioned are just a couple of the dozen or more you will run into getting the surface ready for paint. HINT: parking garages walls and ceilings get greasy dirty from car exhaust, you have to clean all this off or the paint will not stay on. Actual painting is probably less than 1/3 to 1/4 of the actual job. You need an adviser to help choose the different ways of cleaning that you will need to do.

Initial impression is its mold, but I have a few questions. By Pool, do you mean swimming pool or pool table? Is this in a basement? Is it air conditioned? Exterior or interior walls? Drywall or concrete block? If you spray chlorox/water solution on it, does it go away?

Is it safe indoor semi gloss paints during pregnancy?

Do you mean is it safe for you to paint with indoor seimi gloss paint? Yeah it is I asked my dr this question during my pregnancy. We were remodeling when I got pregnant and I ended up painting 3 rooms throughout my pregnancy. Is it safe indoor semi gloss paints during pregnancy?
I painted my 5 y/o daughter's room during my last pregnancy. Just make sure you ventilate the room well. The fumes make me a bit nauseous, but there is little or no effect on your baby. Always confer with you OB/GYN just to be sure.Is it safe indoor semi gloss paints during pregnancy?
Yes it is I have been glossing the doors and I am 24 weeks pregnant
look i dont know who you people have for doctors it is NOT SAFE the paint has fums that have been known to make pregnant wemen go into premature labor.and my source is my sister in law who had a preme while painting the inside of her house with semi gloss interior
I used to work for a OB doctor and she would tll her pts. that is is fine as long as you have good ventilation going through the room-make sure to open windows and wear a mask
It's safe. Just have a lot of ventilation and if you feel whoozy, take a break and get some fresh air.
any kind of paint isn't really a good idea to be around when you are pregnant. It is just best not to be around it when someone is painting just in case. It is better to be safe than sorry.
Absolutely...just make sure to crack some windows so that you are not breathing in all the pain fumes
It smells but it isn't toxic. I would worry more about making you feel nausea.

Indoor latex painting with spray gun?

I have a 1/2hp spray gun system that I'm thinking about using to paint my living room. Is this overkill, will cause me more pain then use?

I was thinking that the alternative would be to buy a 50 buck airless paint sprayer and use that for all the trim work and then use a roller for bulk of the walls.

Problem is that there is a lot of crown molding etc that I can't get at will the roller and I don't want to spend days using a brush on it so I want some kind of power based alternative.Indoor latex painting with spray gun?
It will take more time to spray the room with an airless than it would to brush and roll.

Airless sprayers are good if you are in a new construction situation where there is not a lot of masking off. Even in a new construction situation, you wouldn't go to the airless unless you are going to spray 10 or 15 gallons of paint. The airless is a production tool for applying larger quantities of paint. Don't bother for the 3-4 gallons you will need for the living room.

Just so you are aware- you not only have to mask off for direct overspray - but indirect overspray. Atomized paint from an airless will float in the air and drift all over the house.

The $50 cup guns are also airless sprayers, not HVLP (high volume low pressure), and you will have similar overspray issues to deal with - with them also.

I would brush and roll the room.Indoor latex painting with spray gun?
    Brush and roll only
Take the time and effort to do it right. You won't regret it.
If it was me I'd get an HVLP High Volume Low Pressure system, that's what I would use for crown molding, inside corners etc. You can get a good system for about half what you plan to spend but the little one I have is fine for use around the house.

The old fashioned (to me) high pressure systems allow too much overspray, wasting paint and are just a big mess to deal with.

Your idea to roll the bulk areas is a good one. Do NOT go cheap on brushes and rollers, the cheap stuff do a crummy job and gets paint all over the place.

Wrap your brushes, rollers and trays with saran wrap if you are going to use them again within a couple days, saving lots of time on cleanup.

I've also found the cloth type drop cloths to be the way to go as apposed to paper or plastic (easier to deal with and last a heck of a lot longer) when your through with them and drops have dried, fold them up and store for next time, you know there will be again. They come in handy for other things too like protecting areas or furniture when remodeling or moving. They don't take up that much room.

Indoor trim and molding painted black.?

Is this a new trend (instead of white) and do you like it?Indoor trim and molding painted black.?
Sure.why NOt? If you live in the Adams Family house. Why would you want to paint your trim and moulding black for any other reason than becuase you are bored? Try something else...some color that actually needs creatice thinking to make work.Indoor trim and molding painted black.?
I've never personally seen it, but I think it's a pretty cool idea. You may even think about painting them some other color...a dark blue...ooh, or even a brick red! :o)
No I do not like it. I myself like the nutcharl look of wood for the trim, I hate painted trim.
I did mine six years ago.
Sounds very, very ugly. It will look dated in no time. I don't recommend it.
as a painting contractor who works with designers on a daily baisis I can say with certianty that it is not a new trend , and is usually used in ultra contemporary homes, and then only in certian cases, and rooms where there is need for a large sense of drama.

  • Best paint/primer/polyurethane for an indoor plywood table?

I am painting a plywood table blue with white stripes.

How would you suggest to go about my work. The table is staying inside, but will see a lot of moisture and liquid.

I plan on applying polyurethane to 'waterproof' the wood and make it slick and durable. Any tips/advice there?Best paint/primer/polyurethane for an indoor plywood table?
Use oil-based kilz-it as your primer and apply with small sponge roller. Let dry and paint the whole thing white with your white paint(2 coats). When that dries tape off for your blue stripes using blue painter's tape. Paint the edges of the tape on the side that will be blue with your white paint. Thiss will prevent the blue from bleeding onto the white side. Wait 30 minutes or so until the white paint is dry and paint your blue stripes. After second coat remove the tape. Let paint cure for 24 hours.

Seal with a water-based poly in your choice of sheens. Wait about an hour between coats and apply at least 3. 1 quart of poly should be enough. Place brush in a ziplock bag between coats to keep it from drying out.

Oil-based poly will yellow with light so be sure to use a water-based.

I have patched some holes in an indoor wall with cement. How long do I need to wait to dry before painting?

The deepest cavity filled with cement is about 1.5 inches, the rest were only small holes. I want to put a plaster hole filling product over the cement also before I paint. Is 2 days long enough for the cement to be dry enough?I have patched some holes in an indoor wall with cement. How long do I need to wait to dry before painting?
It really depends on the weather where you are..

With that said 2 days is good but I would wait a week on that thicker one. You dont want it cracking after you put plaster over it.I have patched some holes in an indoor wall with cement. How long do I need to wait to dry before painting?
It takes 28 days for cement to cure! But however if it looks wet don't paint! However 2 days seems plenty of time but dont forget to prime it !
You can kind of tell by looking at it. It will look darker, like it's damp, in spots until it's fully cured. I would say 2 days is when it would be the earliest you could work on that surface.

    Indoor birds and interior painting?

I'd remove the birds until the paint is dry, and the odor is gone. Not only will the odor be dangerous, loose and flying feathers could get stuck in the paint.

    Indoor painting question ?

i want to paint my bedroom walls but over the years there has been 5 layers of paint and 1 layer was a mural so everything is uneven and need ugly, what should i do ?Indoor painting question ?
Step 1: Sand. Using a medium to fine grit sandpaper, sand down all uneven patches to make the wall nice and smooth. Wipe down the wall with a damp rag to remove all excess dust.

Step 2: Patch. Use a spackle (Drydex works well, it goes on pink and turns white when dry) to patch up any cracks or pinholes in wall. You may need a wall patch to fill any holes larger than a quarter. When the spackle is dry, sand the patches down to be flush with the wall.

Step 3: Prep. Wash the walls well to remove any excess dust, dirt, etc. Tape up any areas that you do NOT want to paint, such as trim, ceiling, outlets, etc. Cover the floor and any furniture that cannot be removed from the room with a tarp or drop cloth. I wouldn't recommend using an old sheet as the paint can seep through the cloth. Thick paper or plastic is your best bet.

Step 4: Prime. Using a good primer, coat the walls once, possibly twice, if going over dark colors, to even out the color. If you are painting the walls with a dark color paint, you may need to use a tinted primer. The person who mixes your color should be able to tell you if you need it or not. (I like Glidden's Gripper primer. Be careful, if you get any primer on your skin, to wash your hands before the stuff dries on because it is difficult to get off. Hence the name, Gripper. I recommend gloves!) Wait approximately 4-6 hours for the primer to dry.

Step 5: Paint. Use the roller first, and make a W in the center of the wall. Fill in the wall evenly from the center working outwards toward the trim. Once the wall is covered with a first coat, use a good quality brush to coat the corners and around the trim. (Please remember: synthetic bristles for latex paint, natural bristles for oil paint, natural bristles soak up the water in latex paint, which turns the brush into a mop, and makes an ugly wall) Wait for the first coat to dry (it will look blotchy!) then repeat step 5 as much as necessary to give the wall a nice, even finish. Two coats USUALLY does it, but you may need more depending on the color.

Yes, it's a timely process, but it's worth it if it's done right.Indoor painting question ?
They make a paintable wallpaper that is specially made to go under paint on rough walls. It is a very heavy paper and is sold at Lowes and Home Depot.
buy a filler primer..... then sand it down....follow the directions...
It might help if you put a base coat on , such as Kilz. Then use a faux painting technique that is very forgiving to uneven wall surfaces. Home Depot has a lot of free information on faux painting in the painting department.
INCLUDE A PAINT TEXTURE IN YOUR PAINT WHICH WILL COVER ALOT OF THE UNEVENESS U SEE.
Large mud knife and mud or spakle sand kiltz and paint 2 thin coats better than one thick.
you can try try stripping it with the aid of a heat gun and scraper, or a skim of plaster could do the job. No matter what make sure you got a goo base surface before you start painting. Make sure that the paint you're putting on is compatible with the surface. Me more help e-mail me nl_dwayne@yahoo.com

Is keeping three male Chinese Painted quails in a indoor cage acceptable over the winter months?

The three males are brothers of around 6 weeks. Will they get along, or will they begin to fight once they mature?

Very steep early victorian stone staircase, that is currently covered in laminate(!!!). We canot afford to carpet at present as we need all the fittings for the stair carpet as well- we ahave had many quotes. So the current plan is to strip the laminate and paint the stairs - white on the outside and colour on the middle so that in future we can put carpet down. So...What kind of paint and any suggestions for getting the lined right for the curving staircase and the centre colour and does the paint afford any grip as we have small kids! Most large home improvement stores(IE: Lowe's, Home Depot) carry a paint for stone or cement. To make it more slip resistant add fine sand to it. Instead of painting a second color, why not get a small can of another paint and a sponge cut out shape to just add interest to the steps.
You can just use floor paint (the sort they use in factories and available from Screwfix). But a stone staircase sounds lovely, why paint it at all? Why not paint the laminate, rather than the stone.

    Indoor/Outdoor spray paint?

I have a stencil that I made that I want to spray paint onto a shirt, but my black fabric spray paint won't work even though it's brand new so I was wondering, If I were to use black indoor/outdoor spray paint (the kind you use on wood and metal and what not) would it stay on the fabric or would it wash off easily? Thank you :)Indoor/Outdoor spray paint?
When I use stencils and or other things to paint shirts with, I have found the best thing to do is get the fabric paint in the little squeeze tubes that you get at walmart. Take a brush, and get some paint and just dab it on the stenciled area while you're holding the stencil on the shirt. Put a piece of wood or hard flat surface that you are ok with getting paint on it underneath the shirt layer.

For example, if you're painting the front, put the board inside the shirt so it doesn't bleed through onto the back. This paint is sooo cheap, like less then 3$ a bottle, it goes a long way, and is totally washable/dyer safe.Indoor/Outdoor spray paint?
    Canvas,

Spray paint may or may not stay on fabric. If you try it, wash it entirely alone so if it does come off, it won't ruin any other clothes. I would just use fabric paint, or acrylic paint with a medium for fabric made for acrylic paint.

Is indoor ACRYLIC painting bad for the respiratory?

Is indoor acrylic painting bad for the respiratory system? Is indoor ACRYLIC painting bad for the respiratory?
There is absolutely nothing toxic in either acrylic artist paints or acrylic artist gesso. It is water based paint and it never has any warning labels on either the tubes or jars of acrylic artist paint you can buy. It produces no fumes, it does not effect allergies nor anyone's respiratory systems, cause cancer and any known ill effect. Which is exactly why there are no warning labels on acrylic artist paints.

If anyone tells you otherwise, like a hubby or sister or parent or neighbor, they are cluelessly wrong.

Edit: Prince, I doubt if she is talking about spray painting acrylic paint to do her acrylic paintings. So I gave her the right reply based on her usage of acrylic paint.

The state of California puts warning labels on damn near everything. They do so on acrylic paints with cadmium pigments because cadmium pigments are synthetically made and include metallic particles in the paint making process. The synthetically made pigments are completely harmless to 999999.99% of the artists who use solid acrylic paint. If is highly unlikely that the person asking here would ever become one of the 000000.01%, the one in a million nutcase, who would try to liquify solid acrylic artist paint down to be able to use as a spray paint.

As I said, California puts warning labels on everything to appease every overly cautious, overly protective mommy and daddy. No other state has such warning labels on artist acrylic paints except California. No one else is concerned about the one in a million nutcase user and misuser of the paint.

I gave her the right reply. Is indoor ACRYLIC painting bad for the respiratory?
I paint in the house all the time. This type of painting is safe. I use Acrylics and have found that they produce just a little scent when drying but nothing that you can't live with and after a while the smell is gone. I should know, I am one of those people that strange smells drive me up the wall and I do not mind the smell of acrylic at all. Also as long as it is water based you will be fine, they are not toxic. Now when you get into oils that is a different story.
I must be one of the clueless ones Doc was talking about.

I am sitting here looking at a tube of Cadmium red acrylic tube paint.

    It says ';WARNING:DO NOT SPRAY APPLY- This product contains Cadmium, a chemical known to the state of Calfornia to cause cancer by means of inhalation.';

That is about it. You can brush or knife this onto the canvas just fine, just don't breathe it by spraying it with an airbrush or sanding it.

Acrylics (other than a few pigments like cadmium) are pretty safe. I use them inside all the time too.

I do like to open the window a bit for ventilation anyhow though. (even when not painting )

My point is that you should always check and read the warning labels just to be sure.
If it's art paint, like in the tubes, your should be fine. Its water based so its not that bad.

However if you are painting on canvas and decide to use gesso as a prep, I'm not sure how that is indoors

    Have Fun!
Not necessarily. Just dont eat it, or put brushes in your mouth like vangogh used to do with oil paints... If you fine your self not agree to the smell of the paints, then use a small fan, open windows, or use your central air.... I hope this helped. Just becareful your paint doesnt dry up quick before you apply to the surface......
It's fine but do try to avoid accidentally cleaning your brushes in your coffee !

you can get different sheens. You might want to go for a mid sheen finish such as a satin rather than high gloss which could be too loud.

What`s the best paint to use on indoor wall murals ?

I have always used latex paint to ';block in'; the large areas of color, then added acrylic paint (brush and airbrush) for the details. Let the finished mural dry for a couple of days, then roller a coat of flat-finish polyurethane for protection. What`s the best paint to use on indoor wall murals ?
more than likely, you'll want to use a student grade acrylic paint. it is affordable for the amount of paint you get(you don't need super-pigmented paint for something that size) and you don't have to worry about any hassle with solvents or toxic pigments, as you do with oil paint. the clean-up is just much easier.

if the mural is going to be exposed to any direct or even semi direct sunlight, it would be a good idea to finish the painting with a few coats of a uv protective varnish or spray. you should be able to pick something up at your local art store that will do the job.(most of the pigments in student grade paint are'nt as lightfast as those in artist grade paint.it is usually a comparison of the unchanged color lasting ten years with student grade, as opposed to fifty or so with artist grade)

    hope this helps,

art materials consultantWhat`s the best paint to use on indoor wall murals ?
    Dear Art Lover,

Different projects use different paints. You can use from regular house paint to fine artist oils. I find that acrylic artist paints are a good option when rendering elaborate drawings. It is important to consider having the surface well prepared and free of dust, in order to improve the life of your mural. I will be cautious on varnishing your surface to protect it from the sun. Even with the best varnishes, if the mural is exposed to sunlight, IT WILL FADE. That is unpreventable. It is better to choose a wall free of sunlight altogether. I will recomend, rather, to coat the mural after is finished with a flat or low luster emulsion that can get rid of the glare.

This in order to appreciate the work of art from different angles without having light reflections all over it.

You may also try starting your project in acrylic paints which allows a fast drying period and then using oils on top for fine renditions and blendings that needs more wet open time. (When using oils, always remember to work in a well ventilated area).

How can you decrease the odor from paints, especially indoor rooms?

We are painting the rooms in our house, the paint we are using seems to linger for days. It is a good quality paint. I am just very sensitive to the smell, any ideas, products, etc. would be welcomedHow can you decrease the odor from paints, especially indoor rooms?
The decorating shows suggest vanilla extract. It really does work! Keep the windows open from the top if you can, unless there is a lot of dust or dirt around. Keep a fan blowing to keep the air circulating. If you can stand it, use a mask from the paint section, these really do help. Or even a bandana over your nose/mouth. Sounds weird, but you can even put something like Vicks vapor rub under your nose, suck on a mint, too. These really do help! Happy painting! How can you decrease the odor from paints, especially indoor rooms?
I've found that the smell does depend on the brand of paint. I've used Kelly-Moore paints and found that they don't have as heavy an odor as other paints and that the little odor there is dissipates quickly.
Try opening all the windows in the room for a day and blowing some fans in there as well, light candles...
Some paint retailers sell additives that can be mixed with paint to mask the odor. I have used vanilla extract in oil based paint before. It works pretty well.

    Hi,

Have a few quite large rooms to paint, which fills me with a sense of dread. As such I want to get it done as quick and painlessly as possible without paying someone else to do it. I've seen the JML Paint Sprayer Pro on-line but cannot find a lot of reviews from anyone who has used it.

If anyone has used this can they let us know if you would recommend it and if there is anything to be wary of. Also, if you are painting rooms with different colours is the sprayer easy to clean and use with a different colour?

Any information or advice would be appreciated.Anyone used the JML Paint Sprayer Pro for indoor painting?
i have never used a sprayer but a few things to bare in mind, spraying is quite a skill to get the hang of, its very easy to over spay and get runs, all areas you dont want to paint will have to be masked off so what with prep time, setting up time and cleaning time unless in an industrial setting your almost certainly going to be quicker with a roller and brush. hope this helps

How long should acrylic indoor paint dry before putting the blue masking tape down to paint an adjacent color?

I am painting each wall of my bedroom a different color with Benjamin Moore Pearl Acrylic Latex paint. I have painted two opposite walls. I would like to continue with the other two, but I want to make sure that I've let the paint on the first two dry enough before I try to mask. I don't have much experience painting, so I don't trust my hand to paint without the tape. The walls will have had about 48 hours to dry when I would like to start with the adjacent walls. How long should acrylic indoor paint dry before putting the blue masking tape down to paint an adjacent color?
If you've left them for 48 hours they should be well dry enough to withstand the application AND removal of masking tape - but why do you need to use tape at all - are you so unsteady that you can't gently poke a brush into a corner - and don't forget, if you DO make a bit of a balls up, you can quickly wash the mistake off with water ! ! !How long should acrylic indoor paint dry before putting the blue masking tape down to paint an adjacent color?
i think you're good to go. if you feel that they arent cured yet (darker colors take longer) then try using some low tack tape. usually i wait for a day and use 3m tape with the orange core and it comes out perfect every time.

    -professional painter
if ..if..if..you got to use tape...48hrs should be fine..de..tack the tape by putting it against yourself before applying
48 hours. Use low tack masking tape otherwise you will pull off the fresh paint. Otherwise you could you cardboard and move it along as you paint and you can use fresh pieces as youmove along the wall and throw the used pieces away immediately.. That is what I do.

Hope this helps and happy painting.

You'll need to use just the paint made especially for painting on plastic. Interior latex paint just won't stick to plastic, sorry. If I paint a plastic table with indoor paint %26amp; then paint over it with a paint made for plastic will it stay?
Use Krylon for plastic available at most dept stores and home centers. That's it on the web site you posted.

Latex paint WILL NOT adhere to plastic or oil based painted surfaces.
You def. need to paint the surface with the plastic paint as it bonds differently than the house paint will, I know they don't always come in the colors you are looking for but try it in white, then the color you want
Latex wall paint won't stay on plastic, as you've already found out.

The paint for plastic should work. Make sure your table is clean and dry. Follow the instructions on the can.
try doing it the other way around use the plastic made spray paint then the wall paint it should stick
why not use the paint made for plastic? I did on my stuff and it worked.

What do you charge per sq. ft. for indoor painting job?

A person I know wants me to paint two rooms in her house but I haven't the slightest idea on how to charge her. I don't want to over charge, but I also don't want to under charge. Anyone out there know the going rates? The rooms are a good size also, one has got to be 12x23 and the other is probably about 12x19. She is a packrat also so I'm sure I will have to move stuff as I paint. Please help me with a fair estimate. I live in Florida if that helps any. Thanks! What do you charge per sq. ft. for indoor painting job?
    well first you multiple 12 x 19 = 228 and 12 x 23 = 276

and the total 228 + 276 = 504 then on indoor painting a cheap yet fair price is 60 cent per square foot so

.60 x 504 =302.40 , outdoor painting is usually around $1.20 , but for indoor i wouldnt charge more than a dollar. hope this helps , oh and by the way moving things is extra always , a painters job is to paint the home owner should have everything picked up and moved before the painter arives or is chrged the same as a moving company would chrge i would say at lease $25 per room depending on how much you have to move. What do you charge per sq. ft. for indoor painting job?
I am seeing a couple of you that is showing .68 to 1,00 sq foot and someone saying 1.50 sq foot. Do any of these include paint and material or is that extra on top of cost per square foot?

OK, I live in FL and just had 3 estimates done for painting the inside of my house. I have a 1600sq. ft. house. The estimates ranged from $1100-$1600. So anywhere from about $.68 - $1.00 per square foot is fair. I would stay on the low end:)
I'm in Indiana and a friend just paid $100 a room, labor only. Didn't matter what the size was.
wow labor rates in florida are cheap,I live in the north and ama contractor and our going rate is 1.50 sq. ft for walls, if it is time and materials I bill my guys out at 60 an hour.
In Tennessee, 20 dollars an hour is a good rate. If charging by the job, I would estimate the cost of the paint-supplies and double the labor.

In other words, your 12 x 23 room will use primer and paint. About 60.00 total so your labor would be twice that. Coming to 120.00 + 60.00 Totaling 180.00 per room

    a) technique - when working with water based materials, even the so-called ';premium'; products, avoid the temptation to overwork the paint with a brush or roller. when brushing around trim or along ceiling, load the paint brush with fresh paint to only 1/3 of the bristle...tap the brush on the side of the can to remove excess paint (do not scrape off excess)...apply paint to surface using the flat -or widest side of the brush...apply paint to surface with long - not short - strokes and don't brush through newly applied paint more than once or twice. reload your brush after painting approx. 3 feet along ceiing line even though the brush may seem to still have plenty of paint in it. then repeat the process all the way around the room.

    b) use only the best quality brushes and rollers - it'll make an incredible difference. when working with acrylic (latex) paints, always use synthetic bristle such as polyester or nylon (i prefer polyester)..since you're probably buying your paint at home depot, they carry professional quality wooster and purdy brushes (i prefer wooster's ultra-pro 2 1/2'; angled) - never use natural bristle with water based paints (mohair, oxhair, china bristle, etc.) these products are for oil based only and you will destroy an expensive brush by using them with latex. next make sure your roller cover is also of high quality - both wooster's super-dooz or super-fab are non shedding high quality covers that'll do as good of a job as you can expect. for the smoothest finish, use a 3/8 inch nap. when rolling, fill your roller cover with paint and let stand in the tray for several minutes to allow paint to penetrate to the core...when applying paint to the wall, apply paint in a W pattern approximately 4' high by a couple of roller widths wide. after filling in the W on the top half of the wall, refill your roller cover (even though there appears to be plenty of paint still) then repeat the same pattern on the lower half of the wall. finish up this section by lightly rolling over both top and bottom, floor to ceiling, in long vertical strokes. work quickly, but not so fast as to create paint splatter... always roll into a wet edge.

    c) slow down the drying time of your paint. if you live in a high climate area or your home is very warm, therein lies part of your problem. there are products you can add to slow down the drying time of latex paints to allow for better flow thereby eliminating or minimizing brush strokes and roller marks. flood products makes a product called floetrol (also available at home depot) - mix up to 1 pint per gallon of latex for best results - but be careful - runs and sags can occur if your technique isn't right (practice in a closet before painting the room)...

now, having said all that - be careful what you wish for. most manufacturer's actually create their flat wall products to dry a little mottled or textured. this is done for a couple of reasons. one reason is without any texture, even a flat wall paint will appear a little shiny (angular sheen) and any amount of sheen will highlight any imperfections in the wall such as tape joints or spackled areas. second, the (rheology) modifiers added to the product that creates texture actually is a control feature that keeps one from spreading the paint too thin. water based paints are designed for optimal performance (hide, washability, stain resistance) if they are applied at a theoretical spread rate not to exceed 400 square feet per gallon (that is a theoretical rate and you'll never actually get that much...more realistically 300-350 square feet per gallon) ...without these modifiers, water based products could actually be spread 500 square feet per gallon or more, but the film would be so thin that it wouldn't hide nor provide any protection to the wall when cured.

i hope this info is helpful to you and good luck on your project...

ricHow do I prevent paint strokes from showing on really flat no texture indoor walls?
Use a roller not a brush. Also put on more than 1 coat.
I found out that priming the wall before painting does wonders for hiding brush marks and also makes the coverage appear much more even. Hope this helps . :)
Number one if you did the whole wall use a roller and apply more then one coat also alot of paints put on by an inexpencive brush will leave marks and different types of paint if a good brush is not use.My ex husband was a painter and he used mohair brushes though I'm not sure what they are he always did great work. Peace out!!!!
are you using latex paint??? oil base will leave marks real bad...if you did use oil base, you need to prime it with several coats then use latex, and like the other person said, use a roller not a brush

Why does Tom Brady wear the black eye paint in an indoor stadium?

so he looks cool. Why does Tom Brady wear the black eye paint in an indoor stadium?
Because the stadium in Arizona has a retractable roof and they decided to close the roof just before kickoff because of an incoming storm.

I wonder if it ran when he cried after they lost, lol.Why does Tom Brady wear the black eye paint in an indoor stadium?
Because Abbott and Costello pulled the sooty binoculars gag on him...
OMG, I was wondering the same thing when I first saw him! That is so funny!!
The stadium lights are very bright and can be blinding.
light is still attracted to darkness, even when you're indoors.\\\

and for all the brady haters, look at his career stats and still tells me he sucks. Then i will call you ignorant.
Many do -- they say it's to counteract the glare of the lights.
it goes with his mascara, eyeliner, lipstick, and cheek highlight makeup.
Tom Brady was on the ground the whole game like a cheap whore.
    Because he's 'tarded.
    He thought he was outside
    tradition possibly?
    best it makes him look even sexierrr(;
well there not playin in the dark and u can do that when u have a supermodel gf
because of all the lights they can still blind you
i asked the same thing. the answer i got was because his girlfriend likes it.
Cause he thinks he's cool. But actually, Eli is the great one! The Giants did amazing. Oh and just so that one guy knows. Peyton's better than Brady.
    haha he's a retarded loser :D
it looks cool i guess....probaly a superstition thing

  • How do you delicately remove paint from bricks? Particularly, an indoor brick fireplace.?

Soda basting is the best way. The down side, it is VERY messy. For your indoor fireplace you can build a small room out of plastic drop cloths and blue or green painters tape. Tape the edge of the plastic to the wall, floor to ceiling, on each side of the fireplace and cut 2x2's to hold the plastic to the ceiling out away from the fireplace if your texture won't accept tape (popcorn texture). Turn off heat or A/C so you move dust all through the house. How do you delicately remove paint from bricks? Particularly, an indoor brick fireplace.?
Find someone who can do soda blasting (NOT sandblasting), it should remove the paint without damaging the surface underneath. How do you delicately remove paint from bricks? Particularly, an indoor brick fireplace.?
You could do it the old fashoned way. use paint stripper and a wire wheel or brush, but it would take you forever. soda blast is the way to go, but hold on to your wallet, unless you can rent one someplace. Sand blasting is also another option, but its messy as well.

A friend has some brown formica indoor doors for me. Is it possible to paint them?

I wanted white to match the rest of the house. If it's possible to paint them, what sort of paint should I use?A friend has some brown formica indoor doors for me. Is it possible to paint them?
Yes, but if you want this paint to last you have to sand these doors down with either #150 or #180 grit paper, dust off the door with compressed air or vacuum, followed by a wipe down with either Acetone or Lacquer Thinner as both of these chemicals are excellent for cleaning any residues from laminates.

Once this is done you'll need to prime this with a oil based primer and paint the door with an oil base paint. Latex/acrylic based products won't adhere really well and you won't get the durability of a finish using them on this. Pratt %26amp; Lambert or Sherwin-Williams has oil paints readily available in any color and sheen you can want. Pratt %26amp; Lambert has Suprimer primer and RedSeal which I prefer, and S%26amp;W has the ProClassic Line. Also, use what's called ';Japan Drier'; which is an additive for oils that will accelerate the drying time to a couple of hours.

I use petroleum base paints on all of the trim, casework and doors on my projects. It provides a better finish, durability and aesthetics. You can also later sand and touch up such finishes later down the road with greater success.

If you would like my advice or further help on this don't hesitate to contact me.

**Kilz and TSP isn't the magic apply to all or fix-all for everything. Though they have numerous applications one of them is not for this. High Pressure laminates such as formica are a petroleum base product, thus stronger bond will be achieved when using the methods and petroleum base products I have defined; also #220 grit will not cut through the top surface of the laminate adequate enough to degloss and promote good adhesion of any paint in this application.**

http://tradesprofessional.comA friend has some brown formica indoor doors for me. Is it possible to paint them?
Yes, but it is easy to make a hash of the brushwork and for it to look awful.

Formica needs a special primer like Prime-it plus or BIN 1-2-3, any specialist primer that claims to be suitable for dense products like ceramic, glass, laminates. A water-based primer is fine. I personally would then use an oil-based undercoat followed by Dulux Satinwood. Use a brush and a 4 inch foam roller. Stretch the paint out for a flatter finish, even if you have to do more coats. Key the surface first with a P120 grit abrasive paper.

Sugar soap, vacuum cleaners, esp and all the other stuff mentioned here are really unecessary.
Yes it is . first get some coarse sand paper and rub down the doors. Next get some ';Sugar soap'; from a DIY outlet. was and rinse well. Rub down with fine sand paper and wash the dust off. Dry out and then oaint with undercoat and top coat.

Laborious yes but well worth the effot in the long run.
';Lightly'; sand with 220 sandpaper. Clean with TSP.Apply a couple coats of water-based Kilz-It and paint with enamel paint. I use a small sponge roller so it won't show brush marks. Place tray and roller in plastic bag in fridge until ready for second coat. Saves washing paint out of the roller.
Yes, you can get special paint for painting formica. You can also get a produce called ESP to use as an undercoat for ordinary paint.
Yes or you can put stuff over them and paint that white too.

    It's up to you ;-)
I'm no painter but I think you might have to sand them to give them a key.

Can I use enamel paint over varathane on indoor doors?

Yes you can, but you have to rough up the varnish a little first to make it stick good. Best thing for this is a course steel wool. It'll get into the details of the door easilyCan I use enamel paint over varathane on indoor doors?
No it will not work you will have the same problem, it will shell outCan I use enamel paint over varathane on indoor doors?
    Of course
Varathane is a smoth surface and needs to be sanded to

give a paintable surface - The paint will not adhere well for

very long if you don't sand it first. Use a fairly course sanding paper or block (about 200) and get the edges well . A stripper

will be helpful for getting inside corners.
You can but must sand the varathane first.

We live in a very small place, and we would like to paint the indoor doors, which colour is best?

I'd think white...they will make it look larger. We live in a very small place, and we would like to paint the indoor doors, which colour is best?
if you have many colors going on in a small space white is best... if you are really stuck on what color, again white is going to be the best choice...We live in a very small place, and we would like to paint the indoor doors, which colour is best?
bright colors for expansion yellows bright greens light blues
Lighter colors make small rooms seem bigger. Adding mirrors on the wall also gives the illusion of a bigger room.
Paint them to look like french doors with a beautiful landscape outside the faux windows.
Well, how about colors that you like? Calm and relaxing colors are nice. Try a calm, breezy light blue, or a light olive green. Maybe it will help settle down your home if it's crammed.
light orange.it is a smooth colour.it may be nice at the indoor doors.
It might depend on the color of the walls. If the walls are a dark or vivid color, stick to a light complementary color, like glossy white, pale yellow, etc.

If the walls are a pale neutral shade (white, grey, cream, beige) it might be fun to mix it up a little. Most doors have depressed panels in them to give them a traditional-looking design. You could use the key colors you are using to decorate the room to brighten up the door.

For instance, if you are decorating in in brown and turquoise, you could paint the main part of the door beige, the recessed squares dark brown, and outline the brown squares in turqouise. If you use painter's tape to make the lines straight, it's pretty easy.

Hope this helps, and remember, since you have to live with it, pick colors that make you happy.
    My vote is for white.
Light colors give the feeling of spaciousness. Dark colors will give the feeling of being in a box if your place is small.
I think light colors will make it look spacious, if you paint it some dark color it would look smaller than it already is. Beige, white, etc...
If your living space is small, I recommend light colors on the inside. Dark colors tend to give you a closed-in feeling. We have a small cape cod. We painted our doors antique white with a satin finish and are pleased with the results.

Is there a paint that changes color when exposed to indoor lighting?

I am working on a project and was wondering if there is such a thing as paint that changes color when light hits it. If it does in fact exist, what is it called and where can I get it?Is there a paint that changes color when exposed to indoor lighting?
Well, I haven't heard of any paints like that, but I know they do make paints that glow in the dark. Kind of the opposite of what you are asking though. Depending on what the goals of your project are, they also make liquid photo emulsion that you can print with, paint with, etc...and when exposed to light it solidifies the image-they also make paper this way that you can lay things on and expose to light-thus casting the shadows of all the things you placed on the paper. Other than that I would say do a web search, but again, I haven't heard of paints that change when exposed to light. Is there a paint that changes color when exposed to indoor lighting?
    NO!!!
i am also looking for something like that bu couldnt find the satisfactory answer yet. theoretically, you can add phosphorus to the paint so that in daytime people see one picture and in darkness they see another in which phosphorus is mixed in the paint. but unfortunately, i am also desperately seeking HOW. glow in the dark paints are both expensive and dont have variety in colors, adding phosphorus, if you can find, is the best way i believe. tell me if you can find something worthy...

Can fresh paint cause excessive indoor humidity?

I am a project manager for a construction company. A few condos in a project we built have excessive indoor humidity with no obvious moisture source. One unit in particular was recently completely repainted. This unit (and one next door sharing a common party wall) have relative humidity in the 75-85% range. Could painting the unit (about 1000 sq./ft.) with the doors and windows closed be the cause of the high humidity in this unit? How about in both units? Could the moisture from the painted unit leech through the party wall and cause excessive moisture in the adjacent unit? Any help would be appreciated! Can fresh paint cause excessive indoor humidity?
Most paint these days are ';water-based'; and have upwards of 65% water. When applied to surfaces, some of it can be absorbed by the surface but most of it will evaporate into the air. Painting a wall will definitely raise the humidity in an unventilated, tight room. Considering the other substances in paint that vaporize while the paint is being applied and drying, you should have plenty of fresh air, not closed doors and windows.

Another problem is that the perm(eation) rating of the paint and/or underlying material is incorrect for the type of conditions in the room. If it is too low, the water vapor cannot escape. If the moisture is coming from the painted surface up through the paint, the pressure of the water vapor can break the adhesion of the paint film. A few links below about perm rating.

A lot of paints do not state a perm rating on the can. Either you have to ask the manufacturer, or the perm rating isn't known.

Moisture can go through wall materials and through paint film. It may have happened in your 2 neighboring units, but you'll need to consider other possible sources of the moisture, too.

Good luck with your future painting and construction work! Can fresh paint cause excessive indoor humidity?
sound like the unit is too tight for the humidity inside to escape. no where for the excess humidity to go. crack a window, run exhast fans hope this helps

    Be Blessed!
i always turn the AC up high to dehumidify the area I am painting. It helps the paint dry faster. sounds like your unit is rather well sealed and that may create some of your problem.
Turn on the AC! It helps out drying time. Sounds like units are to tight, this is going to lead to sweating inside of the walls, and mildew. Need to put in some vents somewhere.

What kind of paint is best to use on an indoor wooden sign?

I am making signs for my church and i need to know what the best paint is to use on wood that i am going to sand down. Thanks! What kind of paint is best to use on an indoor wooden sign?
Use acrylic poster paints. You may need to use a compatible clear sealer first if the wood is open grained. Finish with a coat of clear varnish so it can be wiped clean when dusty. What kind of paint is best to use on an indoor wooden sign?
varnishes enter the pores of the wood but remain relatively clear, so chances are good that the grain of the wood will remain visible. Paint is designed to bring color to the wood, but that color may conceal the wood grain.

How do they paint detail on stained glass, all glass paint seems to be for indoor use only?

Stained glass artists use a special paint that turns to glass when baked at high temperatures.

First the artist draws the pattern of the window on paper with the lead lines and colors marked.

Then they cut the pieces of glass and lay them out on the paper sheet. Then the details in faces and on plants are painted on the surfaces that will be inside the building with a special type of paint called ';vitrifiable'; paint.

This vitrifiable paint turns to glass when heated.

To heat the painted pieces they are baked ';fired'; in a big, very hot, oven called a ';kiln'; at least once to turn the paint to glass and fuse this paint permanently to the glass.

Then the pieces are joined together at the edges with lead to make the final completed window. How do they paint detail on stained glass, all glass paint seems to be for indoor use only?
My son does stained-glass artwork, and as far as I know, there is no painting involved. One can used small crushed, colored glass, sometimes in the form of beads, and pretty much place it where ever a detail is wanted...when the glass is fired in the oven, it will produce the detailed effect, depending upon the skill the artist has at placing the glass beads/crushed glass in the proper place, having the oven at the right temperature, etc.

Stained glass is challenging, but the effects are so beautiful! How do they paint detail on stained glass, all glass paint seems to be for indoor use only?
A great deal of Victorian stained glass has painted detail.

However, as it's painted on the inside it's not open to the elements, it is indoors.
    You are joking?

The glass is ';stained'; not painted - ie the glass is coloured during the manufacturing process while it's still molten. Not painted on afterwards.

You can get glass paint - but as you say - that's for indoor use

    Edit: True, yes - sorry.

How much should a good quality indoor latex paint cost?

well good quality indoor latex paint should cost between $35-55. if you need to go cheaper then you should get the less which is about $25-30. my dad works in a hardware store that sells paint so it is not that hard to figure out. or you can just go to a store that sells paint to figure it out.How much should a good quality indoor latex paint cost?
20-30 bucks...depends on the brandHow much should a good quality indoor latex paint cost?
I recommend Lowe's American Traditions paint. It goes on great, is self-leveling (fewer brush marks) and covers terrifically. I endorse it so much they should be paying me! But of all the paint I've used, it is the best!!!!!
I've bought the Walmart kind and 5 years have passed and no problems. My sister on the other hand bought the ';special'; kind for when kids write on walls and it's peeling off after 2 months. I've redone 2 houses = 16 rooms total with Walmart paint.
pay no more than 30 dollars and I highly reccommend they cost more than Walmart, but you wont regret it when your applying it on your walls, and it has a guarentee

Is outside quality emulsion paint REALLY any different from the indoor variety?

because I painted my shed five years ago with some leftover emulsion from my front room and despite being told it would all wash off in the rain it is perfectly ok....perhaps slightly faded.

PLEASE ONLY PROFESSIONAL ANSWERS TO THIS ONE as it is VERY important to know the TRUE facts..thank you!Is outside quality emulsion paint REALLY any different from the indoor variety?
normal emulsion is a water based paint where as a proper exterior paint such as smooth strong hold by crown has other additives in it which make it alot more hard wearing, so yes there is a difference in your outdoor paint than your indoor stuff. I am surprised that your shed has survived for 5 years with no rot as emulsion has no preservative in it which is what your shed needs give it a few more years and your shed will start to rot.Is outside quality emulsion paint REALLY any different from the indoor variety?
Interior paint is composed of vinyl polymers, exterior paint has acrylic polymers , uv resistant colors, and fungicides added, generally thicker even thicksotropic (jelly )

Dulux weathershield UK has a 15 year guarantee,

Its never a good idea to go for cheap paint, it takes too many coats, and works out dearer in the long run.
An interior paint wont necessarily peel used outside..but exterior has more polymers and acrylics in it..better pigments etc..and the uv rating is better for reflective values from the sun...fading will not be as drastic as interior over time ..but interior will adhere
mix your leftovers with 50/50 unibond and it will be waterproof and long lasting
If your shed is wood, and you painted it when it was very dry, the paint would be absorbed into the wood. This is probably why your shed still looks quite good. If you give it another coat once in a while it should last for ages.

  • What kind of paint should I use for an indoor mural?

I've been commissioned to do an indoor wall mural, and I've never painted one before. The mural is for a little girl's room, and the parents want me to paint: unicorns, a castle, ferries, etc. I'm going with a flat animated cartoon kind of look for everything, but I don't know what kind of paint to use nor do I know the best methods to paint it with.

I would appreciate any information you could give. Thanks! What kind of paint should I use for an indoor mural?
I paint murals and use, as noted above- Acrylic paint.

The paint to get for your value is Winsor %26amp; Newton Galleria paint, comes in big plastic containers that look like crayola crayons, but it is WAY better than liquitex for longevity and so forth.

First tip- don't go to Michael's unless you HAVE to. Go to a local art shop near the local University or college that sells materials for much cheaper (usually 40% less than Michael's).

copy and paste this to find out about the paint: http://www.dickblick.com/zz006/04/

here's my website to see about my murals and if you have any more questions: http://www.frikkinawesomefacepainting/pa鈥?/a>

Be sure to get some retarder (to keep it from drying so fast on your brushes), and some good dish soap to clean your brushes. Also- get a roller if you are doing a big blue sky, or rolly hills- it really comes in handy when your back is about to break for painting fro 6 straight hours on some huge wall. What kind of paint should I use for an indoor mural?
Yeah, I'd say acrylic because that is what I've used at our community theatre when I work on their sets. You can get big jars of powdered paint at art supply stores. I'd check with Hobby Lobby and such first though.
    acrilic paint works for me

What do i paint indoor stairs with?

I have taken the carpet up on my indoor stairs. What would i paint them in so that the paint can be walked on and hard wearing? What do i paint indoor stairs with?
Home Depot sells a porch and floor paint. You prime your floor and then use the porch and floor paint comes in many colors lasts a long time provided you take the proper steps to prep the floor.. oh yeah its latex...What do i paint indoor stairs with?
POLYURETHANE WOULD MAKE THE STAIRS VERY SLIPPERY IF EITHER THE STAIRS OR YOUR SHOES GET WET. MY MOTHER BROKE HER ANKLE WHEN SHE FELL ON SOME OUTSIDE STAIRS THAT WERE POLYERETHANED.

You could paint them with floor paint, but wood stain would wear better.

Either way, I would also apply 2 coats of polyurethane afterward.
theres that self leveling paint but dont know if you could put it on steps maybe you can paint it on
See if the stairs are treated. If they are the paint won't last. You will need to prime it also.

have you thought of staining them?
    Paint!

I bought indoor house paint to paint my room but now I do not want to paint it that color can I returned it?

CAn I exchange the color, or just get my money back?I bought indoor house paint to paint my room but now I do not want to paint it that color can I returned it?
Most places that custom mix paints do not allow returns due to dislike of color chosen. You can call them on the phone and ask what their policy is on returned paint.I bought indoor house paint to paint my room but now I do not want to paint it that color can I returned it?
More than likely, no. Did they mix it for you or did you buy it directly off the shelf? If they mixed it for you, you're probably out of luck. Most stores put a non-returnable sticker on top of the paint can if they mixed the paint for you (at least Home Depot does). If you bought it directly off the shelf, you should be able to. Call the store and see what they say.
As long as you haven't opened it, or used it, you can take it back and do what ever you want with it.

    Unless it isn't returnable.
It depends on the stores policy. I have returned paint to Lowe's with no questions asked as long as I had the receipt.
yeah, if you got da recipt you can get yo $$$ back

if you don't ........you shuld be able to xchange it if u didnt open it...............Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People seem to like Benjamin Moore, Para %26amp; what about CIL?What brand of indoor house paint do you like the best and find to be the easiest to apply ?
Benjamin Moore is one of the most popular brands. I USED to be easy to apply and had great coverage. somewhere along the line they changed the formula and now I can almost guarantee you will need a second coat.

I like Behr (Home Depot). Good quality, reasonable price. You may also need two coats but it will cost less. Behr also dries quickly and you can re-coat the same day. Also, check out the Ralph Lauren color chips. The HD guy can match anyone of them in Behr.

Good Luck. What brand of indoor house paint do you like the best and find to be the easiest to apply ?
I haven't heard of the brands of paint that you listed (and I don't know your location), but I can tell you that one NOT to use is the Home Depot brand of paint. I think it's called Behr. We just painted our home a year and a half ago (we prepped it really well) and the paint is already starting to flake off. I'm really disappointed in the paint. The Sears brand of paint, however, I have used before and was really pleased with it. I think it's called Easy Living, and it was less expensive than the Home Depot brand. I have learned that the more expensive paint is not the best interior paint. If you find a color at a paint store that you really like, you can usually take the paint chip to another store and they can match the color with their paint. I've also heard that Dunn-Edwards is good, but I think it's a bit pricey.

  • How long does it take for indoor latex paint with primer to dry?

In hot, but not humid weather. How long does it take for indoor latex paint with primer to dry?
the norm is 25-30 min. When I paint i cut in 1st then roll and the time it takes to get around the room the wall I started with is dry and I can put on a 2nd coat if need.

Have fun painting..How long does it take for indoor latex paint with primer to dry?
inside a home, it could take weeks. But you should be good to remove tape and stuff in about 24-48 hours, after painting.

Can i use indoor house paint on my exterior door? Would that be ok or why wouldn't it be ok?

I would like to paint my front door as well as the walls around our courtyard and front porch. Can i use indoor house paint on my exterior door? Would that be ok or why wouldn't it be ok?
Interior paint is not made to withstand the weather. Exterior paint is chemically, a superior paint, and thus, it tends to cost more. Since you mention painting walls and the door... I will also add this... the type of surface you are painting will also dictate to some extent, what kind of paint you must use. I prefer enamel, or epoxy base paints for metal objects. It dries to a harder, tougher surface. For wood and other porous surfaces, I prefer to use a good oil base paint. Any good paint store can make both kinds of paint match in color if that is what you want. (Due to the chemical differences, they will go on as slightly different colors, but will dry to the same color) I wont even use interior wall paint on the 'inside' surface of a steel door... I buy enamel paint for that, and have it tinted to match if necessary.

We havent even scratched the surface between what kinds of finish you can get with paint either.... flat, semi gloss, or high gloss... typically, a door with have a 'glossier' (more shiny) finish than an interior wall.

Go down to your local paint or building supply store, and ask them about their paints, and what kind they would suggest for which surfaces, and where, you plan on painting ;)

Good LuckCan i use indoor house paint on my exterior door? Would that be ok or why wouldn't it be ok?
no it will chip off from cold and moisture
no, exterior means outside, able to withstand the elements;the paint can take being cold and hot and still remain durable.Indoor paint will not withstand the hot, cold, rain, ice, snow, sun. Not only that, but your door is probably wood or metal.Do a job big or small, do it right, or don't do it at all.Go to a paint store they will guild you in the right direction, good luck.

    2. Sand

    3. Prime

    4. Paint (with exterior paint)My outdoor porch paint is cracking because i used indoor paint, I want to repaint how do i Start? What do i do
Remove all the old paint and re-paint with an outdoor paint. You are on the right track.
I would use a pressure washer to remove as much of the old paint as possible (be careful not to get too close because the pressure from the nozzle can cut into the wood) Then prime and paint with a high quality exterior paint.
first you need to scrape off as much loose paint as you can, second wash it thouroughly with a hose or powerwasher, let it dry for 24 hours. prime with oil based primer, top coat with oil or latex...
Go to Home Depot on Saturday morning , they have free class all summer long . they can teach you all you need to know.
You can go to Home Hard Ware and buy ';hardrock'; its great paint try and watch, i've used it myself, works great!

    Hope This Helps!!
    i dont know
You need to sand it first then you can paint it using outdoor paint
pressure wash your porch the paint it with out door floor paint
first you need to make sure that the termites have not destroyed your porch. Im sorry but whoever told you to use household paint was an idiot. You should have painted it with an outdoor wood paint, and then apply like a thompson sealer. this will keep the paint color bright, and also keep it from getting water damage, termite damage, and keep it from warping. If you're not careful you could find yourself replacing your entire porch. The sealer will keep it from chipping.
Sand it down, prime, then paint with the right paint.
you must remove old paint first then you can repaint it properly.. I would recommend a heat gun to help remove paint but be careful to read instructions so you don't burn the porch down.....the heat is intense but no flame so its not a torch
In order to keep new OUTDOOR paint from doing the same thing you need to scrape and sand off the old paint and yes prime so you have a nice base for the new paint to adhere to. Binz makes great primes just make sure you use wood paint for wood, concrete paint for concrete and metal paint for metal if not you are just going to have the same problem even if you do scrape sand and prime!! Go to a good paint center or a local hardware/paint store. Often you will receive much better assistance then the big orange box stores.
take a brush, get some paint, and paint
First you have to clean the porch then you have tou use a lija and then to paintit again, Be carefull.
wait until the winter, then repaint it then.
